Massa Carrara and Liguria
At a short distance from Versilia
Massa Carrara
The area bordering Versilia is made up of the province of Massa Carrara. This is an extended area that borders on Liguria and Emilia Romagna rich in cultural, natural and landscape heritage that is impossible to miss!
The ancient city of Massa has been recently renovated: all its historic squares and streets are easily walkable from which you can reach the wonderful Malaspina Castle to enjoy a breathtaking view while enjoying excellent wine and some appetizers.
The city of Carrara is internationally renowned for its precious marble and its quarries (possible to visit during the summer). The historic center houses the cathedral which is entirely built in white marble and the renowned Academy of Fine Arts where many students from all over Italy and from all over the world decide to enroll.
Both cities are just a few steps from the sea, and their respective seasides (Marina di Massa and Marina di Carrara) offer a lot of entertainment, especially for the younger ones.
Le Cinque Terre
The Cinque Terre — which are Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarole and Rio Maggiore — despite being in Liguria, are another point of interest for those who decide to stay in Versilia during the summer. These magnificent locations have been recognized as UNESCO heritage and are perfect for excursions immersed in nature or boat trips.
From Versilia they are very easy to reach, especially by train if you take the train from the Pietrasanta or Viareggio station.
